Many people think an infrared camera works off of body heat--that you see different colors and shadows like in movies such as Predator and Eraser. This is not the case for infrared surveillance cameras. An infrared camera simply changes to black and white at night or in darkness. A built-in sensor sees the change in light, turns off the color, turns on the infrared illuminators and you see in black and white. Clarity and distance will be dictated by the size of lens and quality of infrared illuminators.

Infrared, Day/night, IR cameras. These are all the same terminology. We carry a wide selection of Day/night infrared cameras. Many of these also come in a wireless version. Some are even in a outdoor wireless version. You can save money by simply purchasing a transmitter and receiver and build your own wireless camera. It isn't hard to convert one of these cameras into a wireless camera. Select between 2.97mm to 25mm lens. Color during daytime and automatically switch to black and white at night. Economy infrared cameras have black and white all the time and infrared leds only turn on in the dark. Our best infrared camera has a color picture during the daytime and at night it automatically turns on 48 LEDS that have a 90 ft viewing distance.
